Those master tacticians over at 30 Days of Jay, Kenny Hulshof’s ill-conceived and poorly executed last-ditch campaign smear, appear to have finally stumbled upon a winning formula: pictures of couples and families. But if you were looking for actual complaints about Jay Nixon, you’re still in the wrong place. 30DoJ has served as little more than a repository for dull GOP banalities, albeit with a human face. We’re not sure if Kenny will elect to post a final complaint on Election Day — though we’re holding out hope that he’ll choose our submission — so these might be the final two installments. Glorious Republican platitudes, after the jump.
First we meet Fred and Kelly Haskett, who come from the aptly named Defiance in St. Charles County. They have some complaints about the Dems’ plans to raise taxes. Never mind that none of this is rooted in fact. If you repeat it often enough, etc.:
I have a warning to issue voters before ballots are cast on November 4th: Jay Nixon and Barack Obama want to raise your taxes. They want to raise your taxes on people like us, small business owners, on families, the rich and the poor, the young and the old – it simply doesn’t matter who you are…your taxes will increase if Jay Nixon is elected governor… The choice is clear – do you want a president and governor who understand our economy about as well as Jimmy Carter, or do you prefer a man like Kenny Hulshof who has offered immediate solutions to our growing economic crisis and is on the record as saying he will not raise your taxes?
Whoa, a Carter reference! Yes, because that really sticks in the minds of younger voters. We suspect this will work as well as McCain’s warnings about his former golfing buddy, Herbert Hoover. Next up are Julie and Paul Kuhl of Cass County, who would like to talk to you about education:
Throughout his campaign, Kenny has displayed the toughness and courage necessary to get Missouri’s children the best education possible. Through his support of charter schools in our state’s urban areas, offering teachers incentives for achieving excellence, and expanding scholarships to our most deserving children, Kenny’s education plan is one that every Missourian can be proud of.
Please note a few things here: a focus on “charter schools” is always the first step on the path to school vouchers, which hardly helps “get Missouri’s children the best education possible.” The mention of “incentives” is a clear adherence to the failed NCLB policies. And finally, the mention of our state’s “most deserving” children. Something tells us that the Kuhls don’t mean impoverished children — they mean those who have already benefited from a terribly unfair tax-based funding system.
All in all, an underwhelming conclusion (maybe?) to 30DoJ. No wonder Jay’s so far up in the polls.
