One thing that’s gone largely unspoken around the SOTL world — by which I mean “emails to each other” — is how we continue to take on one of our most frequent nemeses in the absence of that publication’s Lunatic-in-Chief. As you may remember from the simple days before this crazy election, Ink, KC’s Most Important Social Networkingish “Media” Site (and magazine, I suppose), has lost one of its most frequent contributors: the inimitable Paulie. The white-haired elder statesman of Ink was the subject of most of our jokemaking about that magazine, and his absence has sent a chill through our hearts and made us wonder exactly where to turn next.
Now, it’s not completely hopeless. There’s speculation on the “Goodbye Paulie” thread that the new “frink,” the non-avatared “sw1101″ is in fact our older friend in disguise. (Though “sw1101″ is listed as female — very clever, Paulie.) And besides, we have other “frinks” to make fun of. Why not return to our roots? There’s a whole host of these clowns we used to make fun of: Rezn8, Momar Van Der Camp, TG Design, SLIMMphoto, et al.
But it’s not as much fun. Rezn8 has barely been active on the site. I lost my energy to write about Momar Van Der Camp after he emailed us and was so damn polite. Ditto with TG Design. And as far as SLIMMphoto is concerned… well, let’s just say we’re not going to invest the energy if he’s just going to wildly misinterpret things.
So come back, Paulie. Please? It’s not just us that needs you. Have you noticed that Ink seems to be drifting aimlessly in your absence? That no one is posting long complaints about never meeting anyone? Or about peculiar fronts in the sex wars only you seem to find? We crave more pictures of you at Oceans of Fun and Voodoo Lounge.
But hey, in the interest of getting our mockery groove back: have you seen this? It’s a place for “frinks” to post their favorite artists. And it reads like a name-checking who’s-who of famous artists, with the notable exception of Rezn8’s entry, which (of course) includes at least three people no one has ever heard of:
