Seriously, Gloria? You’re blaming others for the Ruth Bates lawsuit? Do you truly not comprehend that this entire debacle came about due to your behavior and actions, which at worst were racist and demeaning and at best were incomprehensibly naive?
According to KMBC, the Lady G believes she and the mayor are the victims of a conspiracy masterminded by Councilman Terry Riley.
“I really feel that Ruth was taken advantage of,” Squitiro said in her deposition. “I think Ruth was put up to this.”
Of course! Why else would someone raise such a fuss about being subjected to unprofessional sobriquets in the workplace? Clearly, Riley is a regular master of puppets.
When Bates was working for Funkhouser’s mayoral campaign in 2007, she told Squitiro that she was getting complaints about Funkhouser, Squitiro said.
“She told me she was being harassed by people in her community” for supporting Funkhouser, Squitiro said. “Then it went to Terry Riley. And after that, I don’t know who would have put her up to it.
In hindsight, perhaps those “harassers” were correct after all. But again, is Gloria so removed from reality that she doesn’t understand why Bates would sue? More and more, we see that can be answered in the affirmative.
Riley responded to the craziness allegations by calling bullshit on MetaMayor Funkitquiro:
“This has nothing to do with me or any other council members. It was a hostile work environment. There were some very explicit things that were said in there that should not have been said in any work environment. So therefore, the mayor and his wife are to blame.”
Riley released a statement on Tuesday: “It’s an insult to Ruth Bates to suggest that I was the motivating factor in her filing a lawsuit against her employer. Mrs. Bates is capable of determining when she has been subjected to a hostile work environment and she needs no direction from me or anyone else in making that determination. I am not the reason for this lawsuit; the mayor and his wife are.”
Folks, this is absolutely out of control. Funk has spent more time on network TV in the past week than attending to city business, and as a result, KC is becoming a laughingstock. Any strides being made by the current leadership is being overshadowed by the mayor and his wife, and it is obvious that neither of them are residents of The Land of Reason — neither of them will concede that their actions are doing untold damage to the city’s image and relationships among local government officials. The rumblings have been around for awhile, but more and more we’re hearing serious talk of a recall, and not just in the blogosphere. As much as we hate to admit it, that might be the only course of action left…
