The Kansas City School District may have just killed the dreams of the next Emeril Lagasse. Well, either that or they saved a few lives. Po-tay-to, po-tah-to. It seems that a young man, a sixth-grader, showed up at the Southwest Early College Campus — is that a real thing? — with a “non-lethal kitchen utensil,” which describes… almost every kitchen utensil, I guess. School officials are obviously not fans of the culinary arts:
Police took a 11-year-old boy into custody Friday when he showed up to school with a non-lethal kitchen utensil that he said he forgot to leave at home, a school district spokeswoman said.
The sixth-grader didn’t threaten anyone, but procedure at the Southwest Early College Campus required that police be called, said Andre Riley, the Kansas City, Mo., School District spokeswoman.
Sigh. There goes this kid’s dream. He probably stayed up all night deciding which ladles and measuring spoons to take to class, so that he might familiarize his grip and prepare for his eventual Food Network primetime slot. But no — now he’ll just have to be a doctor or lawyer like everyone else.
